The AfOx Visiting Fellows Program stands as a testament to the commitment to enhance academic mobility and strengthen networks across borders.
Applicants are encouraged to outline an Oxford University host—an individual with an academic or research post in Oxford within the applicant’s field of interest.
This collaboration aims to maximize the utility of the fellowship period, whether with an existing academic collaborator or a potential collaborator the applicant has contacted before applying.
AfOx Visiting Fellows Program Requirements
To be eligible for theAfOx Visiting Fellows Program, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
- Hold a Ph.D. or research equivalent.
- Legal resident of an African country with an appointment in an African academic or research institution.
- Have an existing collaboration with Oxford or be in contact with a potential collaborator at Oxford.

Value of Award: The appointed Fellows will receive an en-suite, single occupancy study bedroom with all meals provided in the host College.
Additionally, a temporary University card and temporary membership to the college Senior Common Room will be granted during the residency period.
The fellowship covers airfare, visa fees, and a maintenance allowance for incidental expenses.
Duration of Program: The fellowships span 8 weeks, with consideration for exceptional circumstances allowing start dates outside this period.

- AfOx fellowships are open to ALL disciplines across ALL University departments. Applications across a diverse range of academic disciplines are encouraged, collaborating with any researcher based at the University of Oxford.

- Note: Only one application will be accepted, so refrain from applying for more than one fellowship.

Application Procedure
- To apply, log in to the “Study in Shanghai” website to check and directly apply for the school and major you plan to study.
- The application time is generally from February to April each year, but the application time and process of each institution may be adjusted each year.
- Please refer to the information published by each institution on its admissions website.
- Scholarship students must participate in the annual scholarship review as required.
- Each receiving institution will conduct a comprehensive review of the annual academic performance, learning attitude, attendance, behavioral performance, rewards and punishments of its various scholarship students, and report to the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission after making a public announcement.
- Those who pass the review will receive a scholarship for the next academic year; those who fail the review will have their scholarship suspended or cancelled.
